“I Now Know Why the Dog Howls at the Moon” by Tymber Dalton. Available free from

Summary: “Charlene only wants peace for her and her young son. She wishes there was a way to get her ex-husband out of her life for good. A free encounter with a carnival fortune teller might give her more than she bargained for. Warnings: Graphic language.”

It’s easy to guess the plot of this story, given the title and the summary. Even though it’s somewhat predictable, I found it cute and enjoyable. The action centers around Charlene, a single mother of an 8-year-old boy.¬† She¬†might be your friend, your neighbor, or your sister. Her ex-husband makes her and her son’s life miserable just because he can, and Charlene does a great job of staying on an even keel for her son’s sake. Details about her life and feelings make a well-rounded and developed character.

The Bottom Line: It’s nice to read a story once in a while where the bad guy finally gets what he deserves and the princess ends up with the prince!
